The 12 Best Hot Springs & Geothermal Baths in Iceland

12 tours  ·  ★★★★★★★★★★ 4.7 average  ·  from $27

Hot water is the one thing Iceland never runs short of, and the baths stay open in weather that closes everything else. These 12 run from the sea-edge pools and the modern spa ritual near Reykjavik to a bread oven buried in the sand at Laugarvatn.

★★★★★★★★★★4.6 · 665 reviews · 30 min · from $27Best value

Bake Icelandic lava bread in geothermal soil, hear local stories, and taste warm rye with butter and smoked trout near the Golden Circle.

“We chose the Geothermal Bread Baking Experience while on our Golden Circle tour. We drove the Golden Circle in our rental car so wanted to take is as many of the sights and experiences we possibly could. Laugarvatn Fontana sits between Thingvellir National Park and Geysir so was a perfect location for our boys to experience something different. The tour itself is pretty short but the guide does a great job explaining the process of making and cooking the bread. It was great to sample the freshly cooked bread and smoked trout back inside. Certainly worth a visit!”

8.Vök Baths Admission Ticket

★★★★★★★★★★4.5 · 211 reviews · 1 hour 30 minutes (approx.) · from $61

Review of Vök Baths in East Iceland, with lake pools, sauna, cold tunnels, café, pricing, transport tips, and booking advice.

“The pools overlook a beautiful lake with hills in the distance. It is a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours after a day of hiking or driving. There a few pools of varying temperatures and a sauna. For those wanting to cool off, a jump into the lake does the trick. While not our favorite spa (that goes to the Forest Lagoon in Akuyeri), the Vök Baths were very nice. The only negative was how slippery the main pool was. That will, of course, be corrected when they clean it again.”

“It was a fun trip. The locations were very interesting. But the thing that was best about it was the guide. I didn't catch his name, but he was wearing the t-shirt of the Icelandic national football team. He was a fun guide, really going above and beyond the call of duty. Even grabbing his guitar and singing us some songs. Highly recommended tour!”

Review of Krauma Geothermal Baths near Deildartunguhver, with six pools, steam rooms, fire lounge, local food, price, and practical tips.

“Very relaxing environment, we had the spa to ourselves at different points which was nice. Each pool being different temperatures was nice as we had a choice in which we would like to go in, the steam bath was relaxing and literally made you want to fall asleep. we stayed for 3 of the 4 hours you get and when we got out our skin looked so refreshed and revitalised. The facilities were great, showers were lovely and hot, hairdryers and straighteners to use for the women once you got out and washed your hair. All around lovely experience!”

Akureyri: Forest Lagoon Entrance Ticket

11.Forest Lagoon Entrance Ticket

★★★★★★★★★★4.8 · 176 reviews · from $52

Review of Akureyri’s Forest Lagoon, with geothermal pools, sauna, cold plunge, fjord views, prices, tips, and who should book.

“Amazing views, helpful staff and a beautiful venue. Iceland has a lot of things that are very expensive (the taxi to and from the town a 6 minute drive away totalled £30) but this actually felt very good value for money. The swim up bar was also reasonably priced, and no set end time meant you could enjoy it for as long as you wanted. Definitely recommend taking your own towels and swimwear - and a waterproof bag for cameras and phones! You can borrow all of these but that does make the cost rocket quickly.Read more”
