The 15 Best Whale Watching Tours in Iceland

34 tours  ·  ★★★★★★★★★★ 4.5 average  ·  from $34

Humpbacks and minke feed off three different coasts here, and the boat decides the day: a big ship is steadier, a RIB is faster and colder, an old oak schooner is neither. The 15 below cover Reykjavik, Akureyri and Husavik, with sailing times and what each hands you to keep warm.

Review of Húsavík’s traditional oak-boat whale tour, with practical advice on sightings, comfort, guides, price, weather, and booking.

“We have ventured into the sea with Gentle Giants on boat Faldur on 04.08.24 at 1535. Our guide (sorry I cannot remember his name) was very nice and had wonderful sense of humor. Whole trip was very educative (shame on ppl, who still thing whales and dolphins are fish!). The captain did all he could to provide us with wonderful sightings of whales and dolphins and we have seen quite a few. 3h, for someone not used to the sea, is a long time, so we were happy to go back to shore, when the trip ended. So I think 3h is a perfect length for such trip. Thank you…”

“Really good experience, we were lucky enough to see lots of whales close to the boat, the commentary was very good telling us what side of the boat to go when whales were about to appear. We went on the evening trip and being July the sun didn't set completely even at 10.30 at night and was a beautiful sight low over the ocean.”

The tour guide provided lots of information throughout the tour, and was over a very friendly guy. We were able to see two hump back whales quite up close to the boat, which was a once in a life time experience. We even said we’d happily come back and do this trip again.”
